Journey around the world by Lara

MY JOURNEY ROUND THE WORLD

My journey round the world started in Egypt. First we stayed in a beach hotel for a few days. Then we travelled by bus to Luxor and we saw many temples and tombs. After that we travelled to the capital town Cairo by sleeper. We visited there Giza pyramids and sphinx, a museum and a perfume store.
Next up we visited London. It has many different things to see. We went to Natural History Museum. We saw many interesting animals and plants there. I also remember the Madame Tussauds Museum. I still have some pictures of me and celebrities. The best thing in London was London Eye. The view was beautiful.
Our journey continued on Cuba, an island in Central America. We stayed in a wonderful hotel. We saw the plantations of sugar cane and tobacco. The most incredible were daily tropic showers. Almost every day was raining, but there was enough hot for swimming in big waves of blue Caribbean sea.
Next stop was Istanbul. There were so many mosques and the biggest one is the Blue Mosque. But I didn’t like it because the smell was awful. I couldn’t breathe. There was an interesting market called Grand Bazar. We spent some time in a Turkish sauna.
Next stop was an island Sicilia. There were many ancient temples. The most famous thing on Sicilia is a volcano called Etna. It is still active and erupts from time to time. We went to one of the craters. It was hot and steamy there.
At last we went to Sri Lanka. We saw so many buddhist temples. The nature on Sri Lanka is very diverse – from rainforest to reach tea plantages and dream sandy beaches. Riding an elephant was one of the craziest things I have ever done. The best was a beach hotel and swimming in big waves.

SURVIVAL ON AN ISLAND

An English pilot Edward Teach was flying a plane above the Atlantic ocean. He was travelling to Hawaii with his friend Tom Robinson. It was a very sunny and warm day, and it was summer. They were very happy.Suddenly, they heard a very loud bang. When they looked out the window they saw that the aircraft engine exploded. Plane was falling to the sea and they had to act quickly. They pinned the parachute and jumped out of airplanes into the sea. When they landed in the sea, they saw a small island, and they swam on it. Edward and Tom lived on that small island for 2 months. They built a shelter of branches and leaves and caught the fish for food. They also ate coconuts by coconut trees. But suddenly on the 64th day of their stay on the island there was a big storm. Tom and Edward found on the shore the aircraft wreckage in the morning after. The storm washed residues of the plane! They looked for anything useful, and found a radio! It was a bit bruised but it worked! They called for help and, on the 65th day they saw a plane! They were finally rescued and ready to return back to civilization.

Childhood memories

In corvensation with Anica Rumiha

WERE YOU BORN IN LJUBLJANA?
Yes, I was born in 1954, on a very big and poor farm, that was not far
from my school.

WHAT WAS LIFE IN LJUBLJANA IN THOSE DAYS?
I think that life wasn't that easy as life today. Most families were poor .
In the morning we went to school. We didn't have soo many aids for school.
We only had textbooks. We wrote with little stones on plate. In school was very strict education.
After school we went back home and then we had to work on a farm. Children helped on fields.
So as you see we didn't have any free time.
If I had free time I would hang out with my friends. We played with little stones (that game was called PILKANJE). Boys played games with ball. And sometimes we played chess.

DID YOU HAVE CANDIES IN THOSE DAYS?
Yes, we had, bud not so many as you have now.
I remember that my mother gave me a chocolate and I was so happy.

WAS LIFE ON A FARM HARD?
Yes , it was, because sometimes we worked all day.
We didn't have any machines to work in the fields.

WHATS YOUR MOST VIVID CHILDHOOD MEMORY?
I remember that children studied in the evening by candles, because in those days we didn't have electricity.
And I almost forgot to tell that once a year we killed a pig and we made sausages. All my relatives came and afterthat we celebrated.

DO YOU THINK CHILDREN WERE HAPPIER WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG, AND WHY?
Yes, because we were happy with what we had. Children today are too spoiled and they are not thankful to their parents enough.

Childhood memories

IN CONVERSATION WITH MY GRANDMOTHER
Where you born in Slovenia and when?
I was born in 1954 in Kranj.
Where was your school?
My school was in town. It was small and the teachers were much more stricter to us. We were punished if we didin't work hard.
What high school did you finish?
I finished tekstille high school. It was a very nice school, but I had to work very hard to finish high school. Those times were hard in every area.
What do you miss from those times?
I miss the talking. People don't talk much. When you go out some of them don't even say hello to you. Some are very rude. I miss children in the gardens, playing with each other and not playing video games like they do. I miss people from those times.
Do you think that your times were better than times now?
Yes of course they were. We didn't have computers,TVs, we didn't have any technology. We were happy for what we had, we were happy for every single thing we got. We wern't selfish. And we knew how to have fun. We were outside every single day and we were happy. Now children don't know how to be like us so most of the children stay in their rooms and play video games all day long. They don't have true friends, they only have hundreds of fake friends on computers. It's sad how it is.
What are your hopes for the future?
I hope there wont be so many computers, TVs and other things that make people diffrent. I'm hoping for nicer future and that my granddoughters and grandsons will have beautiful lives.

I STAYED THERE FOR A FEW DAYS AND THEN I FLEW TO JAPAN - TOKYO. I BOUGHT A NEW NISSAN CAR, MODEL 370Z, TOOK IT ON A SHIP AND SAILD TO BRASIL - RIO DE JANEIRO. WHEN I CAME TO THE PORT IN RIO, IT WAS THE TIME OF THE CARNIVAL. THERE I BOUGHT A LOT OF INTERESTING SOUVENIRS. MY LAST PLACE OF VISIT ON MY JOURNEY WAS LONDON. I STAYED THERE FOR ALMOST A WEEK. I VISITED ALL TOURISTIC SIGHTS. AFTER 57 DAYS OF MY JOURNEY AROUND THE WORLD I RETURNED HOME. I SAW AND MET A LOT OF NEW PEOPLE AND GOT A LOT OF NEW FRINEDS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD.

A story by Lara

ARGUING
I was on holiday with my two best friends. We were at the campsite near the sea. It was a beautiful and sunny day. We were watching a horror film. When the film ended we were arguing who would go first in the water, because the monster in film pulled a woman into water. It was very terrifying.
We were all very nervus and we were standing on rocks. Then a friend just pushed Polona and she fell into water. Then we all jumped into the sea. And we were all happy.

»EXTREME« SURVIVAL
We have a dog called Bina. She is 3 years old and she is a very healthy dog.
But I think it was a week ago, when she started to feel worse. Suddenly we saw a lump under her eye. Everybody in our familly was so worried. I almost cried. All of my good mood turned to worse. And it was already worse because of the bad expieriences we had with the lumps on other dog`s bodies. Our first Bina died because of a lump in her stomach. She was the best and the cuttest dog we ever had. And that is why I loved this dog so much.
The situation was getting worse and worse from hour to hour. But it was SATURDAY and we couldn`t take the dog to the doctor. I had to wait another TWO days!!!
Next day, it was Sunday. And after the Mass, me and my brother Jan took Bina for a little walk. This lump grew from a little lumpie to a great lump in a day! My thoughts were black and I didn`t eat all day. Even in the evening, I didn`t watch TV as usual. I just went up to my bed and fell sleep. The next morning, it was Monday. And with Monday, there was school again. But it made me a bit happier. I could see my friends again, and we chated a lot. The weather was great, and in my black mind, there was a little light flashing: TODAY we go to the vet and he will examine Bina! And all happy I came home.
But when I came home, I started to feel a bit nervous. Already, when I came, on the door, there was mum. Her face was happy and suddenly, I knew the words, she will say. And she finaly said: »Bina is better! The lump is getting smaller and smaller. We have cancelled the examination at the vet and you can take her for a walk if you want in the afternoon!«
All of us were happy and also my classmates were happier than I expected. So like all the American films and stories, also this story came to a HAPPY END!

A story by Nejc

THE FEAR OF NIGHT
It was happening along time ago in the nineties, when country Slovenia was going to be a free country. There was a little house up on the hill, where one happy family lived. One weekend mum and dad decided to go out to celebrate this freedom, but their son Žiga stayed at home alone.
He was accustomed to this. But one night on November 2nd something unexpected happened. He decided to watch a very good thriller on TV. When he started to watch it he became very excited. But at the end of the thriller he was very scared. After the film, he walked up to the second floor and heard something. He thought that someone opened the door. He knew that that it wern't his parents, because it wasn’t the time, when they said that they would come home. It was too soon. He ran up into his room and he hid under the bed. Then he heard, that someone was walking up. The robber entered the parents’ room. Žiga took advantage and ran down into the kitchen. There he took the biggest pan and hid behind the fridge. He waited that the robber came down. Then Žiga hit him with a pan and the robber swoon and fell down. Žiga immediately ran and picked up the phone. He called the police. When police arrived the robber was tied with the very strong rope. The police took the robber away, and Žiga was very happy that he won the battle against him. After that, he went to bed.
Next day he told about the whole story to his parents. They gave him a reward and took him to the very exciting adrenalin park. All of them were very happy that the adventure had a happy end.

A STORY FROM VELIKI TRN

It was in August. I had competition with accordeon in Veliki Trn. It was a national championship for girls. It was a sunny day. There were a lot of girls who play accordeon and I was scared.
The competition started! The girls played very well. My performance was coming soon. I was nervous. I went to the stage and started to play. I made a mistake! After my performance I was sad but my friends made mistakes too.
I was very happy because I won the third place in Slovenia. After that we had party at my friends house in Raka.
